A senior U.S. intelligence officer describes a night of orb encounters from a helicopter over a weapons test range

2025 · Office of the Director of National Intelligence, McLean, Virginia · Sighting · Primary document linked

In a first-person narrative released in May 2026, a senior U.S. intelligence officer describes a helicopter mission in late 2025 to look into loud thuds and orb sightings on a weapons test range; searches turned up only old rocket and projectile debris and a large cave entrance. After dark, radar detections led the crew to intercept. Ground teams reported a 'super-hot' object on infrared that split in two and came within ten feet of the helicopter before speeding away. Hovering at about 700 feet, the crew saw many orange orbs swarming against a mountain, then two large oval orange orbs flare up just beside the rotor disk, joined by others in a 'T' formation for 10 to 15 seconds. The officer writes that similar orbs then appeared above fighter jets on a training flight, flaring one at a time and matching their speed.
