An AC-130 gunship crew records about 25 'cold orb' UAP over the Gulf of Oman during live-fire training

An Air Force Special Operations Command intelligence report says that on the night of 8 September 2021 a U.S. special operations AC-130 gunship on live-fire training in the Gulf of Oman dropped a flare as a mock target. On infrared, the combat systems officer saw two cold orbs about four feet across hovering 0 to 20 feet above the water over the flare for about 15 seconds; when he fired the 105mm cannon, the pair sped out of the sensor's view without changing altitude. The crew went on to see about 25 instances of cold orbs: two flying in a loose, wave-like formation 'similar to how dolphins playfully swim in a pod', a formation of three, and others maneuvering erratically. Using the aircraft's targeting tools, the officer estimated speeds of 250 to 1,300 mph. No propulsion was seen.

Why it matters (2/5)

A military sensor report circulated through intelligence channels; not evaluated, and not public until 2026.

Caveats

The report is labelled 'not finally evaluated intelligence'. The aircraft's digital video recorder failed and most footage was corrupted; the report lists a briefing with six embedded videos as an attachment, which this entry did not check. Speeds are the crew's estimates.
