Navy aircrew 'range fouler' forms report small fast objects and a balloon-like object in training airspace
2019 – 2020 · Navy training airspace off the eastern United States · Sighting · Primary document linked
Three Navy 'Range Fouler' debrief forms from 2019 and 2020, partly released in May 2026, show how aircrew reported objects in training airspace. On one, a crew member with 28 years of service with the Air Force and Navy wrote that between sorties a small object below the aircraft sped past in a straight line in the opposite direction; after tracking it for 10 to 15 seconds he started recording, lost it when he zoomed in, and on review after the flight it appeared rectangular. On another, a pilot reported a small contact moving in a constant direction, shape indiscernible, with a reflective, metallic-looking bottom. On the third, a weapons systems officer over the Atlantic described a dark maroon object 12 to 15 feet tall that looked like a large, somewhat deformed balloon.
