Air Force files record scattered sightings over Santa Catalina Island, 1949-1955
April 28, 1949 – March 15, 1955 · Santa Catalina Island, California · Sighting · Primary document linked
Four Air Force files cover sightings at or near Santa Catalina Island off Los Angeles. On 28 April 1949 a civilian reported six objects, each flying alone. On 25 June 1952 three Boy Scouts hiking on the island saw a silent silver object, faster than a jet, make a climbing turn and 'disappear by disintegration'. In 1953 an Air Force sergeant in San Pedro watched a round, purplish-white object hang over Catalina and then move northwest toward Los Angeles for about ten minutes. On 15 March 1955 a civilian at Avalon saw a very bright orange object fall straight down for about two seconds.

Why it matters (2/5)
Minor Air Force case records kept for completeness; none drew investigation or attention.
Caveats
The Air Force's verdicts were 'insufficient data' (1949), no evaluation with observers' experience 'probably meager' (1952), possibly a planet per Griffith Park Observatory astronomers, though a later review noted the movement did not match the winds aloft (1953), and 'probable meteor' (1955). The cases are grouped here only by place.
